British Land’s Marketing Team helped Valerie Lothian to elevate her Brand!

In the world of Corporate Marketing, it’s easy to get caught up in large-scale campaigns and big-name customers. But sometimes, the most rewarding work comes from helping ambitious Entrepreneurs build and grow their businesses from the ground up.
That is exactly what happened when the Marketing team at British Land met Valerie Lothian, through Rebel Business School. She attended their programme which was based at one of British Land's campuses.
Rebel Business School are a partner in British Land’s social impact initiatives. Their programme empowers people from all walks of life, to start and grow their own businesses.
British Land is also committed to supporting communities, fostering quality entrepreneurship, and providing accessible resources such as affordable space.
Meeting Valerie Lothian, Founder of Focusivity
Valerie has a creative Financial background and she came to us with a unique business idea and a powerful drive to succeed.
Upon hearing her story, we soon realised that she was looking for specific tailored guidance on the next steps for her Financial Stress Relief business, called Focusivity. We saw this as a great opportunity to make a real difference.
Like many Entrepreneurs, she knew her craft inside out, but needed guidance on elevating her digital presence to reach a broader audience. With a limited budget, Valerie had built a small online following, but knew she could make a much bigger impact with the right support and a refined approach to digital marketing.
Enter the British Land team.
We are a property company that owns office “campuses” across London. But we go further than that in creating spaces and communities which foster collaboration and create environments where businesses large and small can thrive. But working with Valerie would be a new kind of challenge. Without the large budgets typically available to our customers, we would be applying our skills in a different way, testing the team’s expertise in a lean, resourceful environment.
A Collaborative Approach to Growth
From the outset, working together was truly collaborative. Our Marketing team began by evaluating Valerie's existing digital channels and identify where there was room for improvement.
We looked at her website, social media presence, and digital marketing efforts, considering how best to communicate her brand and reach her target audience.
Through brainstorming sessions, hands-on guidance, and strategic planning, we progressed our working together to elevate her digital channels.
We provided insights into content strategies that resonate across industries, shared tips on improving engagement, and explored ways to create a stronger brand presence without the need for heavy investment.
Valerie gained a roadmap for growing her business, alongside using immediate actionable steps.
Mutual Benefits
While our focus was on helping Valerie, who was extremely flexible and positive with receiving and giving feedback, the project was also an incredible opportunity for our team.
Testing our marketing strategies without a typical budget allowed us to stretch our creative thinking and refine our ability to deliver impactful results under constraints.
It also provided valuable, real-world insights that we can apply to our work across British Land’s portfolio. This experience has been a powerful reminder of the flexibility, adaptability, and creativity required to make a difference, no matter the scale of the project.
For our team, supporting Valerie’s creative journey allowed us to bring fresh ideas to the table. It enabled us to apply skills, typically honed in larger campaigns, to a grassroots business context.
It was both humbling and truly inspiring to see the direct impact of our work in real time.
